Someday Soon!

. . . .I will turn on my sewing machine and finish some quilty projects! I hope to finish these two projects soon but not sure when it will happen.

In the basket are the pieces of Star Light Star Bright just waiting to be a quilt top! I have seen other participants finished beauties. Click on the button on my sidebar - Happy Quilting's Star Light Star Bright to see them. Melissa keeps each week's instructions ready for anyone who wants to make this great looking quilt.

In the bottom left corner are place mats. This is my rendition of using Cynthia's design of a scrappy quilt. She has great instructions for making various sizes.  Go to Quilting is more fun than Housework to make this happy looking quilt or place mats as I have created. They look so pretty on my table! Brightens up my kitchen. The best part was making them from scraps and stash. I have chosen a lime green for the back and binding.

I have committed myself to making some blocks for Kevin the Quilters QOV Block Drive. Go here for more information on his wonderful endeavor!

Charity Quilt Drives Led by Men and Bloom Project March Link Up

Quilt made by Kevin the Quilter
Just this week it has come to my attention of two dynamo charity men quilters who are leading the way to make a difference by making charity quilts. Please let me introduce you to them if you haven't already met them in blogosphere.

Kevin is hosting a Quilt of Valor Block Drive.
He needs our help.

How?

QOV Block Drive ~ Hosted by Kevin the QuilterBy making very simple blocks. Look how a simple pattern in just the right color combination sings! Easily you can whip a few of these up in less than one hour. Will you consider making 5 blocks? Quilts of Valor are a great way to honor the men and women who sacrifice their lives for the freedom that we all enjoy?  If you don't have time to make 5 blocks consider sewing up however many you can pull together.

Kevin has all the details on his blog. Click on his name above or on the button. Help to spread the word. Feel free to grab the button! Thanks so much! I will be making my 5 blocks soon so stay tuned as I will post a picture of them. First I have to make a fabric run since I don't have the colors in my stash.

Now let me introduce you to to:

I  have known Paul for about 5 years now. We have not met in person but jointly we had belong to another online quilting group that was hosted by another social media website now defunct.  Currently this group has their own facebook group named Passionate Quilters which was created to complete  UFO and NewFo Challenge. Now it thrives as a means of quilting friends sticking together, growing and sharing our passion for quilting. Anyways, during those years Paul has made a ton of charity quilts or led the way to make them either for cancer patients or hospice patients.

Currently, he is now participating in the 2014 Project UFO and NewFo that I refer to as the Bloom Project hosted by me. For the Bloom Project he has listed as a goal to make 30 charity quilts in 2014. He is on his way having  finished 6 so far this year. He chose to make quilts in the Jelly Roll Race style since he owns 50- 60 yards of strip stash. Excuse me while I go shopping in his stash!

The finished quilts will definitely please. He looks for fabric that will grab the patient's attention.  Hardly can they be bored with the selection of fabrics he chooses that are vibrant in color and design.

Please take a moment to read how he mass produces his charity quilts. Go here.

Quilting Along Updates, Bloom Project and How to Match Seams Tutorial

Feb 19th Star Light Star Bright Assignment - Building Block Centers

Yes, I am one week behind but working hard to get caught up. They are looking more Scrumptious at ever new stage. So that makes it all the worthwhile.

The greatest difficulty making these stars was matching the seams. So I came up with a way that reduced the amount of ripping out and resewing. I have created a picture tutorial that will show you how I did this.

The last picture with 4 images should read:
"Reverse the block begin sewing at center and sew to the end."
Though it is a couple extra steps I believe it reduced the length of time to finish all 9 blocks.

Assignment for February 26th is building the block sides.
Sets for 2 blocks are completed and looking good on the design board.
It's getting exciting!!

Below is a collection of fabric for the Triangle Quilt Along being led by Paula at The Sassy Quilter! I am still shopping for more fabric to complete the collection. Some info about the QAL:

Meet a couple of Bloom Project Participants:

Isn't this strippy scrappy wonderful?
added a bit of color here and there to make the quilt more interesting.
See the reds and pinks that pop out?

This is a must read to understand what each of the blocks represent.
Deana at Daughter's of Dorinda created this quilt that tells of
Utah history as well as some family history.
