Feb 19th Star Light Star Bright Assignment - Building Block Centers |
Yes, I am one week behind but working hard to get caught up. They are looking more Scrumptious at ever new stage. So that makes it all the worthwhile.
The greatest difficulty making these stars was matching the seams. So I came up with a way that reduced the amount of ripping out and resewing. I have created a picture tutorial that will show you how I did this.
The last picture with 4 images should read:
"Reverse the block begin sewing at center and sew to the end."
Though it is a couple extra steps I believe it reduced the length of time to finish all 9 blocks.
Assignment for February 26th is building the block sides.
Sets for 2 blocks are completed and looking good on the design board.
It's getting exciting!!

Isn't this strippy scrappy wonderful?
added a bit of color here and there to make the quilt more interesting.
See the reds and pinks that pop out?
This is a must read to understand what each of the blocks represent.
Deana at Daughter's of Dorinda created this quilt that tells of
Utah history as well as some family history.

All your QALs look great. Your stars are really pretty! Look forward to seeing the whole quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove your stars, Joanie! I match my seams up in a very similar manner. My dad was a tailor and he gave me tips on lining up the seams properly. You're working on some great projects!
ReplyDeleteI'll be participating in in triangle quilt along too. See ya there!
ReplyDeleteThose are sure scrumptious looking star blocks, Joanie! Bright and just right. Looking forward to triangle quilting along with you. Your fabric pull looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Getting those matches can be tricky right? They look great. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I never thought of matching seams up that way! I am going to try this!
ReplyDeleteLove your springy Starlight quilt! I think I will be doing the triangle quilt along also :-)
ReplyDeleteGood tips! Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI love your happy stars! You're right -- with a design like that, it's worth taking the extra time to get the piecing really precise. This should be a fun one to quilt, too -- have you thought about what you'll do with the quilting yet?
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics you choose for you triangle QAL, that's going to be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe stars are fabulous!! And thanks for that great little tutorial on matching seams - I think you are right, would save time ripping in the long run. Definitely going to try this!!
ReplyDeleteYour stars look fantastic and absolutely perfect!! Great tips on how to quilt them up just right :) I am loving how they are coming together ;)
ReplyDeleteJoanie, when you say 'tack the seams', are you tacking them together by hand?
ReplyDeleteI was tacking with my sewing machine a stitch and a reverse stitch. I chained stitched but of course the thread was a little longer between blocks. It speeded up the process. I could remove the pins knowing that the seams were locked and not shift when stitching the seams.
DeleteGreat tutorial Joanie and your stars are perfect! Thanks for sharing.
